Facts on homelessness
Reducing homelessness saves money and saves lives!
Chronic homelessness accounts for only 15–20 percent of the total homeless population. The large majority are able to improve their own situations.Thank you to the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 for providing support.
The homeless circle of life often includes addictions, mental illness, and chronic health concerns. Homeless folks are 2x more likely to be hospitalized and 4x more likely to be put under critical care. Costs to house the homeless in jails and hospitals can be tens of thousands of dollars.
Permanant Housing
Providing permanent housing is the cheapest solution. Supportive housing cuts hospital, emergency medical, and nursing home costs by around a third.
Let us emphasize providing permanent housing, not bookings into jail cells.
